Abstract

This Technical Brief summarizes information currently available in scientific research on endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), sometimes known as pharmaceutically or hormonally active agents or endocrine modulators. It was prepared in response to concerns over the potential for EDCs to enter the environment in treated wastewater discharges and land application of biosolids generated during wastewater treatment. This Technical Brief provides a primer on the endocrine system, the nature and sources of EDCs, and their potential effects on human health and the environment. Comes with a four-page Fact Sheet of commonly asked questions on EDCs. Published by WERF. 44 pages. Soft cover.
