Quantification of Airborne Biological Contaminants from Land Applied Biosolids
Abstract
The goal of this research was to pair a comprehensive literature review with field aerosol sampling to characterize aerosols emitted during the land-application of Class B biosolids and provide a simplified framework for evaluating exposure to onsite workers and offsite residents. The research confirms the use of a simple transport model to estimate downwind biosolids bioaerosol concentrations and proposes a framework for estimating onsite worker and offsite resident toxin or pathogen exposure while minimizing the expense and difficulty of biological or chemical aerosol measurements.
