Abstract

In 2001, the Water Environment Research Foundation assembled a team of experts to participate in a workshop on the state of the science and regulatory development pertaining to persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) pollutants. The ensuing publication The Workshop on Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic Chemicals: Assessing the State of the Science provides an overview of PBTs and PBT regulatory development, current activities regarding identification and management of PBTs in both the United States and internationally, and the regulatory and technical impacts of those activities, with an emphasis on the impacts of future PBT regulations on dischargers.
