Abstract

There are two aspects to locating buried utilities. First, the buried pipe needs to found, and then the location needs to be documented. This Gas Technology Institute report identifies, demonstrates, and/or evaluates technologies for locating buried pipe (conductive and non-conductive) and develops guidance for using Global Positioning System (GPS) data to document a location. The technologies discussed are electromagnetic and alternative technologies with a special focus on ground penetrating radar. Research Partner: GTI. Published in 2011.
