Abstract

In 2008, Orange County Water District (OCWD) commissioned the Groundwater Replenishment (GWR)System, an indirect potable reuse project jointly operated by OCWD and Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD). For this project, the research team characterized each unit process used in the GWR System, the source waters that feed the unit processes, foulants and mechanisms of fouling, and the performance of the advanced oxidation process. Information on the carbon and energy footprint of each unit is also included. This information was used to identify specific areas where monitoring and control strategies can be used to improve the GWR System.
