Reuse: Membrane Technology

Abstract

This study evaluated a novel approach of using oxidative technologies as a pretreatment for reverse osmosis (RO) membrane feed water to address issues associated with organic fouling. This work demonstrated the benefits of ozone applied upstream of RO membranes for decreasing the aromatic, hydrophobic nature of effluent organic matter; minimizing organic fouling of membranes; and for oxidation of trace organic contaminants.
