Abstract
Many processes used in treating wastewater produce varying levels of effluent quality that may impact UV disinfection performance. These processes can be categorized as particle forming, particle removing, or transmittance altering. This comprehensive document evaluates the effect of a wide variety of upstream treatment processes on UV disinfection efficiency. It provides information for operators, consultants, and design engineers on process changes for enhancement of UV disinfection, and provides guidance for new process design.
