Abstract

Imperfections or membrane breaches as small as 20 to 30 nm in diameter can allow enteric viruses to pass through the membrane and contaminate the product water stream. There is a need for real-time membrane integrity monitoring to demonstrate the level of removal of these contaminants to ensure public health protection. New Techniques for Real-Time Monitoring of Membrane Integrity for Virus Removal: Pulsed-Marker Membrane Integrity Monitoring System investigates the use of markers for membrane integrity testing. Co-sponsored by U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
