Abstract

This study evaluates the feasibility of recovering four non-nutrient commodity product categories including volatile fatty acids (VFAs), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), alcohols, and the inorganic products hydrogen peroxide and caustic (sodium hydroxide) from wastewater. The report reviews currently available recovery processes for multiple non-nutrient commodity products, evaluates markets and pricing trends of these commodity products, and discusses strategies WRRFs can use to explore implementation of commodity product recovery.
