Transforming Aeration Energy in Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) through Suboxic Nitrogen Removal
Abstract
This project will advance suboxic nitrogen removal (SNR) by (1) expanding the model predictive aeration control (MPAC) technology DO/Nmaster towards full-scale integration and commercialization; (2) filling fundamental knowledge gaps related to SNR process operation, using controlled pilot tests to develop kinetic relationships for process modeling and reliable SNR control, operation, and design; and (3) furthering low dissolved oxygen/SNR coupled with MPAC from pilot- to full-scale demonstration for flow-through biological nutrient removal activated sludge treatment for commercialization. Research partners: Carollo Engineers, Inc.; and U.S. Department of Energy.
This $4.6 million project was funded in part by a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy
