Adapting Leading Practices and Associated Tools

The intent of this research project was to validate the usefulness and adaptability of four of the tools developed as part of WERF’s Strategic Asset Management Challenge that are incorporated into SIMPLE (Sustainable Infrastructure Management Program Learning Environment). To do so, four of the tools and processes were integrated into the asset management programs of four different utilities. The tools that were demonstrated are: Levels of Service, Condition Assessment, Life Cycle Cost Projection, and Optimize Capital Investment. The report explains the steps each utility took to apply and integrate the WERF SAM tools into an existing asset management program, shares helpful tips and recommendations for other utilities, and highlights the impacts and benefits each utility encountered from their use of the tool.
