Abstract

This project updated and expanded upon project 4034 by quantifying the impact of condition assessment programs and technology implementation on failure/deterioration rates of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP); collecting successful transmission main program approaches as a road map for large diameter, linear asset management programs; and reviewing lessons learned from PCCP management to determine applicability to large diameter pipe constructed with other pipe materials. A methodology was developed to monetize failures to inform a decision-making framework for inspection, monitoring, and rehabilitation efforts. A guidance document was created to enable utility managers to determine best practices for managing their large diameter pressure pipe inventory. Research partner: Great Lakes Water Authority.
