Abstract

Mainstream short-cut nitrogen removal and mainstream deammonification offer opportunities for sustainable wastewater treatment, energy neutral facilities, and reductions in treatment costs. This project advanced the understanding of how mainstream deammonification can be accomplished without relying on extensive nitrite oxidizing bacteria out-selection, and by selecting for partial denitrification either in pre-anoxic or in post-anoxic zones or reactors.
