Managing Water and Wastewater Utility Data to Reduce Energy Consumption and Cost

Jul 10, 2019
Project Update

Data management plays a vital role in managing energy use and cost in the water and wastewater industries. Technological improvements have been made over the last decades in data analysis and management, from sensorbased knowledge to more recent optimization-based data mining techniques. Traditional and spreadsheet-based approaches used for data management have been replaced by new smarter and digital solutions. New data management opportunities that use more holistic and integrated real-time data management with digital platforms allow utilities to provide more integrated analyses of operations and infrastructure. They also allow for the display of real-time energy performance of utility assets and associated costs, enabling intelligent decision-making towards more energy efficient, cost effective, and sustainable operations.
