Research Impact
Phase I used nine aeration and injection wells that surrounded the production well to create a subsurface biogeochemical barrier composed of reactive iron hydroxide minerals and iron bacteria. Phase II investigates unresolved Phase I issues such as entrained air and unanticipated preferential flow paths resulting in an increased need for required safety factors and cost estimates.
