Abstract

The purpose of this project was to determine if clean and biologically stable water distribution systems can optimize lead and copper corrosion control while minimizing or eliminating the use of orthophosphate and other corrosion control chemicals, thereby providing financial, water quality, and environmental benefits for both drinking water and wastewater utilities. Research partner: WE&RF. Published in 2017.

One of the participating utilities, Green Bay Water Utility, shared their experience using unidirectional flushing to lower lead and copper concentrations in drinking water. The case study video is posted on YouTube.
