Considerations and Blending Strategies for Drinking Water System Integration with Alternative Water Supplies
Abstract
As more water agencies plan to diversify their water supply portfolios with alternative water sources, strategies are needed to manage integration of these sources into existing drinking water systems and to mitigate any adverse impacts. This project will prepare a literature review, establish a framework for identifying distribution system and customer premise plumbing water quality impacts, and apply the framework to test corrosion and biological growth with potable reuse water. Guidance will be provided to help utilities maintain distribution system water quality while integrating new supplies and strategies. Research partners: California State Water Resources Control Board and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
