Abstract

This project produced an accessible, easy-to-navigate industry practices guide for water utilities for management of claims before, during, and after an infrastructure failure event to provide maximum legal (risk) protection. The guide is applicable to a wide variety of scenarios that a water utility might encounter, and a wide variety of water utilities. Three short duration training videos were also created to supplement the industry practices guide. The videos highlight the recommended practices for managing damage claims and legal issues and include interviews with DC Water managers. The videos are available to view from this project page. Lastly, checklists were compiled as quick references on managing damage claims and legal issues before, during, and after infrastructure failure. These checklists are provided in Appendix A of the guide and are also available to download as Microsoft Word documents under Project Resources/Project Papers. Completed in 2014.
