Abstract

This research investigated the toxin gene number, the distribution of these genes, and the chromosomal content in two toxic cyanobacteria, and determined whether chromosome copy number is variable and under what circumstances. The report also provides information on the mechanisms controlling toxin production and helps establish whether use of real-time molecular detection systems may be extended to enumeration of problematic microbes.
