Abstract

This technical brief summarizes the latest scientific data on trace organic compounds (TOrC) in the wastewater treatment environment. It explains how levels of TOrC are identified and measured, and describes removal efficiencies in typical wastewater treatment processes. It also evaluates potential human health and ecological effects of TOrC that may be discharged to surface waters and/or taken up in public water supplies. The brief identifies management strategies along with future research needs. Published by WERF. 114 pages. Soft cover and online PDF. (2008)
