Abstract

The purpose of this project was to determine if NSF 61 predicts metals release with sufficient accuracy to meet the public health and regulatory needs of utilities that utilize chloramination. The project directly compared the leaching characteristics of typical utility service connection and premise plumbing devices under relevant NSF Section 8 and 9 protocols under both chlorinated and chloraminated conditions in a certification laboratory setting. The report includes a knowledge base, available as a Web Tool, of utility experience using NSF 61-approved appurtenances with chloramine disinfection. Research partner: EPA. Published in 2012.
