Abstract

This research sought to help address a knowledge gap in estimating health risks of water recreation. The researchers used survey research and environmental chemistry methods to evaluate rates of water ingestion during swimming, canoeing/kayaking, and wading/fishing. The results will inform health risk analysis of primary and secondary contact recreation. Agencies and utilities can use this data in quantitative microbial risk assessments to support the development of location-specific water quality standards or to estimate health risks for a specific level of water quality.
