Abstract

Identifies costs, benefits, and risks associated with complete water treatment plant automation and the levels of automation needed for unattended operation. Reviews regulatory requirements related to unattended operation. Develops an economic analysis method useful to utility decisionmakers for evaluating the life-cycle cost/benefits of automation investments. Provides automation case studies demonstrating the approach. Research partner: USEPA. Published in 2008.
