Communication Principles and Practices, Public Perception, and Message Effectiveness
Abstract
Water and wastewater utilities communicate with customers, the media, and other stakeholders about the presence of trace organic compounds in water supplies and the potential risks to human health and the environment. This project reviewed previously published communications research and analyzed media reports about trace organic compounds. Ten utilities share their perspectives and describe their outreach programs, communication methods, key messages, and thoughts about communication deficiencies or needs. The researchers developed a framework to help utilities as they present and monitor the effectiveness of communication strategies and materials. Published by WERF. 298 pages.
