Abstract

This project convened a Collaborative Forum on Microplastics Research to meet four main objectives: 1) build institutional knowledge of microplastics in the water/wastewater utility community, 2) capture the state of science concerning microplastics in water, 3) foster increased collaboration and coordination among microplastics researchers, and 4) identify microplastics research needs. The forum was split into six sessions: occurrence, sampling, toxicology/health effects, analysis, treatment, and regulatory environment. Each session featured a group of speakers and was followed by a group discussion. The forum was convened at American Water’s Corporate Headquarters in Camden, New Jersey. Published in 2025.
