Abstract

The primary objective of this project was to develop sample preparation methods for biosolids which can be used to detect pathogens using molecular detection techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, quantitative PCR, microarray analysis, and fiber-optic biosensors using a surface plasmon resonance technique. The research addresses the sample processing for analyses of viruses and provides useful information for practitioners and other researchers working on detection of pathogens in biosolids using molecular techniques. It is hoped that this work will be a useful intermediate product that can be used to develop more complete information on processing of biosolids for detection and quantification by molecular methods.
