Optimization of UV Disinfection
Abstract
Improves available validation tools for UV disinfection. Identifies a better microbial surrogate for Cryptosporidium and Giardia and an absorbing chemical that mimics low UV transmittance (80% - 90%) waters better than surrogates currently use or proposed. Analyzes the impact of lamp and sleeve aging on dose delivery and monitoring. Also verifies new tools for UV reactor validation in order to optimize the sizing of UV systems while maintaining public health protection.
