Abstract

This project investigated whether subsurface intakes could serve as useful treatment tools in a multi-barrier treatment regime to improve water quality, while reducing reliance on more expensive or energy-intensive downstream treatment processes. The research evaluated regulatory monitoring frameworks (e.g., groundwater, GWUDI, and surface water) to determine the most appropriate approach for monitoring subsurface intakes, and looked at methods for determining pathogen removal credits.
