Abstract

Water and wastewater utilities are data-rich but often insight-poor. Disconnected data sources, a retiring workforce, and increasingly complex operational challenges necessitate a new approach to utility management. Traditional "digital twins" are often passive models that mirror physical assets. In contrast, MAIA Water's iAsset technology creates active, intelligent agents that not only represent operational entities but also autonomously perform tasks, communicate their status, and provide intelligent recommendations. This project is founded on the principle that augmenting human expertise with advanced AI systems is critical to the future of the water sector. By deploying the Waterways OS and its iAsset modules at DC Water and HRSD, this project aims to demonstrate a scalable and transformative approach to unified intelligence for water operations.
