Sr. Accountant

WRF is seeking a full-time Sr. Accountant in our Denver, CO office. Primary responsibilities include audit preparation and financial statement preparation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Will also be responsible for general ledger accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and other special projects as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
Financial Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely financial record keeping and reporting, in accordance with GAAP and FASB.
- Prepare monthly and year-end journal and reconciling entries; manage monthly and year-end closings; manage monthly and year-end financial statements and related filings.
- Analyze and review accounts monthly to identify erroneous and/or missing entries and prepare necessary journal entries.
- Reconcile quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.
- Prepare annual corporate financial reports for state filings e.g. CO Charitable Solicitation Report, CT Corporation as necessary.
- Prepare employee benefit 5500 reporting and other filing requirements.
- Prepare board committee reports as required.
Serve as Staff Lead for Audit & Tax Reporting
- Act as liaison with audit firm, manage audit schedules, and coordinate year-end audit preparation and prepare work papers for annual audit.
- Coordinate and prepare annual form 990 and related work papers.
Annual Budget
- Prepare annual budget worksheets for necessary staff and support the annual budgeting process.
- Maintain the operating budget in the accounting system.
- Calculate annual funds available for the WRF research programs.
Other Functions
- Serve as payroll processing back-up; process every 4th payroll.
- Assist with preparation of the Foundation’s annual indirect cost rate proposal submission.
- Prepare payments by accruing expenses; assigning account numbers; requesting disbursements; reconciling accounts.
- Manage banking relationship.
Job Requirements
- CPA
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with non-profits, federal grants contractors, or public utilities
- Single audit experience
- Previous payroll experience is desired
- Must be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as with others
