Evaluation of Lead Pipe Detection Methods
The goal of this work is to find a technique to detect lead pipe without excavation. The technique identified is the resistance measurement of a pipe. Lead (Pb) has a significantly higher resistivity than copper (Cu), and it is expected that the resistance of a pipe with portions of lead will be much higher than if the pipe was entirely made of copper. Initial development of a calculation tool to determine the detection limit of piping has begun. This tool can be used in the field to determine the significance of a resistance measurement and how it relates to the presence and quantity of lead piping.
