Abstract

There is much research on the occurrence, treatment, and ecological and human health risks of compounds of current and future interest (aka compounds/chemicals of emerging concern CECs); however, there is a need to integrate this information in a concise, clear format to help water utilities understand how to monitor and assess CECs, and communicate with their customers about CECs. This project will provide a framework for communicating what is known about CECs and their risks relative to other stressors, what the current uncertainties are, and what the critical information gaps are that deserve attention from the research community. Several informational pieces, such as fact sheets, FAQs, or briefs, will be developed for use by the water sector, government and non-governmental organizations, and the public.
