Abstract

In order to address restrictions on nitrogen discharges, wastewater utilities need more information about the potential for source separation and resource recovery. This project will conduct a critical review of next-generation nutrient removal technologies; and characterize, categorize, and communicate processes that reduce energy, costs, chemical inputs, and life-cycle environmental impacts. Utilities will be able to use this research to increase their resource efficiency and, as a result, develop more resilient, adaptable, and equitable engineered systems.
