SENTRY-AD is a real-time, bio-electrode sensor that allows for the monitoring of microbial metabolic activity in the anaerobic digestion (AD) wastewater treatment process. The data allows operators to monitor the impact of toxic chemicals or process imbalance on microbial health in the AD system. Additionally, this data can be aggregated and combined with existing water quality and operational data to improve and optimize AD system performance.

The key benefits of SENTRY-AD include:
- Monitor AD process stability: Real-time, bio-electrode data allows operator to monitor microbial health of the AD system in real-time.
- Protect the AD from upset: Imbalance or toxic shock events can be identified the instant they begin to impact microbial activity. This allows the operator to take immediate action to reduce impact on system performance.
- Optimize process: Aggregation of data and integration with existing water quality and process information provides unique insights into system performance over time.
Has the technology been tested, demonstrated, or implemented anywhere to date?
We have completed pilot-scale demonstration tests over the past two years with key industrial partners (ADI Systems, Paques, CNETE).
What are some of the next steps needed to advance the technology?
We are looking to identify wastewater AD partners for installation and validation of key sensor benefit. We offer the sensor platform at no cost to clients for initial validation.
