ClearCove’s Harvester™ technology is a new disruptive technology in the wastewater industry that performs enhanced capture of organics in the primary treatment process to reduce plant energy consumption and generate significant amounts of energy, unrealized by any other treatment process. Installation of ClearCove’s technology can enable facilities to generate more energy than they consume, making them a revenue generator and economic development driver for their communities. The Harvester is a complete headworks and primary clarification technology, removing the need for separate grit removal, screening, flow equalization, or primary clarification equipment.
Food & Beverage
The ClearCove product line ClearCapture™ can effectively and inexpensively treat wastewater to reduce municipal sewer surcharges, automatically adjust pH, and provide a renewable energy source. ClearCove’s ClearCapture™ solution provides a low-cost, patented physical chemical process that removes TSS and BOD without relying on expensive activated sludge systems, using less energy, producing cleaner water, and providing an energy production opportunity. Production facilities in such industries as food processing, breweries, distilleries, and wineries that must remove high concentrations of organics from wastewater and adjust pH before discharging into public sewer systems or other secondary methods of treatment will see dramatic economic benefits using ClearCapture products.
What are the benefits to implementing your technology?
The ClearCove technology provides the following advantages to the facility, all at a lower capital investment versus today’s conventional technologies. The ClearCove Harvester technology removes up to 70% of the BOD and 85% of the TSS in the primary treatment stage through its patented approach to settling and fine screening:
- Increases biogas generation by up to 250-300%
- Reduces aeration energy consumption by 50% or more
- Increases plant capacity by up to 100%
- Provides total plant upgrade reduction of up to 30% or more
- Reduces facility O&M
- Reduces landfill transportation and tipping fees
- Provides reliable, automated operation
The increased levels of renewable biogas enabled by the ClearCove technology can be utilized and monetized in a number of ways, including:
- Satisfying onsite energy demands of electricity and heat
- Microgrid optimization
- Selling electricity or natural gas back to the grid
- Converted to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicle fuel
Has the technology been tested, demonstrated, or implemented to date?
The ClearCove Harvester technology has been piloted at more than 20 plants to date and the first install is underway. It was demonstrated at the Ithaca Area Wastewater Treatment Facility under New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) program 2722 “Towards Net Zero Energy in Wastewater Treatment.”
Our most robust food and beverage treatment solution combines the ClearCapture FINE with a specially designed membrane filtration system for greater than 95% BOD removal and 90% potential water reuse. The CLEARCAPTURE PURE is ideal for food and beverage producers with the desire for onsite energy generation, high degree of water reuse, and completely eliminating sewer surcharges. Within food and beverage, we have piloted at numerous facilities and are currently installing ClearCapture™ at five plant locations and ramping up quickly.
What are the next steps needed to advance your technology?
As the technology has been successfully demonstrated at numerous sites, the next step necessary to advance the technology is to install it in a full-scale application. If there is interest in the ClearCove technology, ClearCove’s mobile pilot unit can be deployed to the requested site for demonstration and validation by the interested party. Upon completion of demonstration and fulfillment of performance claims, design of the ClearCove Harvester for full-scale implementation into the facility would begin.
Further demonstration, research, and development of the ClearCove Harvester in combination with emerging nutrient removal processes such as anammox and membrane technologies could be beneficial to further enhance validation of the technology. This would require the Harvester, membranes, and BNR studies to be paired at the host test bed facilities. Partnering with WERF members to further pilot this new disruptive technology will be key to exposing the next generation in wastewater treatment.
Being a member of LIFT has created the opportunity to introduce our technologies and technical findings with WERF and LIFT members. These types of non-sales conversations focus on solutions and predictable end results. LIFT has been instrumental in making introductions to municipalities such as the City of Fort Worth’s Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility where the Harvester technology was recently piloted. It is facilities like this that are forward thinking that adopt technology innovation like what ClearCove provides. They continue to offer us opportunities and exposure to further our innovative system to the market.Alex WrightTech Solutions ManagerClearCove Solutions
