LIFT SEE IT
The Scholarship Exchange Experience for Innovation & Technology Program (SEE IT) is an initiative spearheaded by The Water Research Foundation (WRF), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), and the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) to provide scholarships for utility personnel to visit other utilities with innovations of interest and to share experiences with their peers. Innovations may include new technologies and processes, but also novel approaches to service, operations, and finance.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 LIFT SEE IT program.
SEE IT 2020
In January 2020, the sponsors awarded 8 utilities with travel scholarships.
SEE IT 2019
In 2019, the sponsors awarded 17 staff members from 8 utilities with travel scholarships.
SEE IT 2018
In 2018, the sponsors awarded 28 staff members from 10 utilities with travel scholarships.
SEE IT 2017
In 2017, the sponsors awarded 32 staff members from 11 utilities with travel scholarships.
SEE IT provides hands-on interaction with innovative technologies and approaches with representatives that are implementing them to provide program participants with the needed perspective and information to accelerate adoption at their own facilities. SEE IT is a tool and resource supporting the transformation of water resource recovery facilities into utilities of the future.

MSD was interested in technologies not currently in operation in the United States. Through SEE IT, we sent staff to the United Kingdom to learn about thermal hydrolysis, advanced acid-phase anaerobic sludge digestion, and combined heat and power. This knowledge will potentially save us hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
With new ammonia limits added to our discharge permits, we needed to reduce our side-stream ammonia returns and aeration-associated energy costs. SEE IT allowed us to evaluate innovative options, and we currently have an ANITA™ mox process under design and construction.
