Water Research Foundation (WRF) is the leading not-for-profit research cooperative that advances the science of water to protect public health and the environment. Governed by utilities, WRF delivers scientifically sound research solutions and knowledge to serve our subscribers and stakeholders in all areas of drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and reuse.

Through careful investment of research dollars from approximately 1,200 subscribers in the United States and abroad, WRF has funded and managed more than 2,300 research studies valued at more than $700 million. From asset management to treatment, utility finance to resource recovery, conveyance systems to water quality, we are at the forefront of researching the issues that matter most to all of us.
Sponsoring Comprehensive, Credible, and Timely Research
We have funded and managed research that is trusted throughout the international water community. Our research is conducted with scientific integrity under the guidance of experts in a variety of fields. This scientific rigor and third-party credibility is valued by utility managers, public health officials, and regulators in their decision-making processes.

Our two websites provide a comprehensive overview of our One Water research program. Access www.waterrf.org to submit proposals and get the latest information on lead, cyanotoxins, PFAS, and more. Through www.werf.org, you’ll gain access to Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) and research related to nutrients, resource recovery, reuse and more. We encourage you to explore both sites and look forward to launching a single, integrated website in 2019, where our entire portfolio of research and resources will be available to you in one location.
Subscriber Benefits
Our subscribers guide our work in almost every way—from planning our research agenda through executing research projects to delivering results. This partnership ensures that our research addresses real-world challenges and results in knowledge and tools that can be effectively applied. By joining the Water Research Foundation, subscribers leverage their research dollars with approximately 1,200 subscribers, consultants, manufacturers, and water organizations.
Fostering Collaboration
We actively collaborate with public and private utilities, global nonprofits, and government agencies to capitalize on each organization’s expertise and maximize impact. Such collaboration allows us to leverage resources, find the best solutions to problems of shared interest, and develop and disseminate broad-based knowledge to the widest possible audience.
